I don't think you realize what it takes to produce a new design of an
electronic device, much less something as complex as a computer.
Industry standard for ANY consumer electroncs device generally runs 18
months from initial start to product introduction.

If ESCOM got the schematics, computers, and parts on Day One, they'd be
right on schedule with a prototype in March, maybe a little ahead. But no
one really believes that they got that stuff on Day One, which means that
they started late.  And thus that means they're more than a bit ahead of
schedule.

For myself, I'm impressed that they even have a working prototype. Well,
I _assume_ it's working.  :-)   But the upshot is, what they have
accomplished here is FAR from trivial, which is the SECOND time they've
impressed me from a Manufacturing point of view.

It helps to have an appreciation from the inside... :-)
